Descendants of Heth who lived in the land of Canaan. After Sarah’s death, Abraham negotiated with them and purchased the field of Machpelah so he could bury Sarah. Ephron the Hittite sold Abraham the land for four hundred shekels of silver (Genesis 23:3-20). Later Isaac’s wife, Rebekah, tells him that her son, Jacob, must not take a wife of the daughters of Heth, saying, “if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?” (Genesis 27:46).
