Summary

The book of 2 Chronicles continues the story of the Davidic line. Again running parallel to the books of 1 and 2 Kings, 2 Chronicles tells the narratives of (1) Solomon’s reign and the construction of the temple (2 Chronicles 1–9) and (2) the history of the Davidic monarchy, ending with the Babylonian captivity and Cyrus’s decree to rebuild Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 10–36). Details not found in 1 and 2 Kings are employed by the Chronicler as he wrote this history. Unlike the books of Kings, 2 Chronicles focuses almost exclusively on the southern kingdom.
