a wady in the neighborhood of Hebron (Mamre), explored by the spies who were sent by Moses from Kadesh-barnea (Numbers 13:23-24; Deuteronomy 1:24). The name is still attached to a spring of fine water called ‘Ain Eshkali in a valley about two miles north of Hebron.
